Course Description

This work/process will entail creating acceptable block model attributes in their right format to be used in Whittle pit optimization setup. This will include block value estimation e.g. material type in terms of density and grade, waste categorization, material type classification into reserve (i.e. measured and indicated) as well as inferred and any other undefined block classification, etc.

Course Outcomes

It is expected that the student at the end of the course will be able to:

  1. Learn about the format of characters accepted in Whittle.
  2. Create additional block model attributes into the given exploration block model.
  3. These attributes should depict material type classification (e.g. in terms of degree of weathering, reserve – measured and indicated, inferred, etc.
  4. Appreciate the essence of creating these attributes to appropriately assign both their mining and milling recoveries so as to inform a proper strategic mine plan

I have held several mine engineering, production planning and its implementation roles from a graduate level to a superintendent level. Before joining Future Global Resources Mines as a Mine Planning Superintendent, rose through the ranks of a Graduate Mining Engineer to a Mine Superintendent for 11 years at Golden Star Resources. Has also previously held the position of a Senior Strategic Mine Planning Engineer at Kinross Chirano Gold Mines for 3 years where I oversaw the reopening of their surface operations, making strategic decisions which led to a higher NPV and an extended mine life within the time frame.
